How to Use Makeup to Make Eyes and Lips Appear Larger
Long ago, having lush, full lips and big, doe like eyes was
a sign of fertility in a woman. Today, having big lips and eyes is still very
favourable, yet not all of us are blessed with them. This article will tell you
how to use your makeup to emphasize your features in the best way possible.
Eyes
Apply concealer.
Concealer in a shade slightly lighter than your skin tone
illuminates the eye area, eliminates dark circles, and draws attention to dark
lashes. Dab it underneath and around the eyes, and blend.
Pick a neutral shade of eyeshadow that matches your skin tone to use as a base.
Apply it from your lash line to your brow bone. Blend a darker neutral shade, such as a
mauve, gray, or brown, onto the outer corners of your eyes and the crease of
the eyelid. Emphasizing these two areas gives the eyes subtle
definition, and creates the illusion of wider eyes.
Dab a pearly eyeshadow or highlighter upon the inner corners of the eyes.
Blend upwards toward the middle of the eyelid, as well as on
the brow bones. This step brightens and awakens the eyes.
Gently pull the lower rim of your eye down.
Apply white eyeshadow either on an angled brush or your
finger. This step helps reduce the look of bloodshot eyes, and has an instant
opening effect.
Line the eyes in
brown or black, making sure to give a tiny "flick" at the outer
corners to elongate their shape. Do not line the lower lashline, as
this shrinks the eye.
Gently grasp lashes with an eyelash curler.
When eyelashes are straight, they cast a shadow on the rest
of the eye. This step, which takes less than twenty seconds, often has the
biggest effects.
Swipe on mascara.
Whether its two applications or seven, the creation of a
dark veil of lashes is the most important step in making the eyes appear
larger. With semi-shut eyes, focus on the center of the upper lashline and on
the lashes at the outer corners of your eyes. A waterproof mascara on the lower
lashline prevents the inevitable smudging and creasing.
Comb through lashes with an eyelash comb.
Slowly pull the comb upwards through the lashes. This step
gets rid of clumps and defines the individual lashes, making it look less like
you're wearing mascara.
Groom brows.
Arched, well-groomed brows frame the eyes, and the first
time you look in the mirror after grooming them, you'll ask yourself why you
never did before! Tweeze stray hairs above and below the brows, then fill in
the gaps with an ashy-colored pencil or powder.
Lips
Slather on that lip balm!
Moisturized lips are necessary as a base for lipstick,
liner, and gloss.
Define the lips with a liner that will matches your lipstick.
Instead of applying it so it perfectly reflects the
shape of your lips, level out the curve of the cupid's bow. This will help your
lips appear plumper on top.
Fill in your lips with a warm, rosy lip color.
Avoid plums and wines because just like dark clothing makes
our figures look slimmer, dark lip colors will make our lips look smaller.
Dab a clear gloss into the middle of the lips.
For an extra "boost", a lip-plumping formula will
plump up lips further with a refreshing tingle.
Tips
Blend everything.
Make sure none of the lipstick gets smeared on your teeth or
on the surrounding skin of the face. It looks very clown like if you do.
Use eye shadows as close to your skin tone as possible but
not the exact same colour. You still want it to look like you're wearing
makeup-just not piles of it.
White (or silver) eyeliner/eyeshadow looks raunchy as a tight
line on medium to dark skin tones. Use a nude or peach color instead.
If lips are very chapped, rub a warm, damp washcloth over
them to remove dry skin..
Warnings
Be very careful while applying any eye makeup, especially
mascara and eyeliner. You could harm your eyes if you aren't cautious.
Don't tug or squeeze to hard on the eyelash curler when in
use. If you squeeze gently and lightly, you should be just fine.
Do not apply eyeliner thickly and around the whole eye. This
actually makes the eyes look smaller. You can use white eyeliner or a very
light pastel colored eyeliner to line the rest of the eyes that weren't lined
with the black.
